What is it? [User Manual]

The Air Quality Egg is a sensor system designed to allow anyone to monitor CO2. It also monitors temperature and humidity.

Volatile organic compounds are the precursors for smog. In the USA they are tracked as hazardous waste when in water, but not in non-industrial indoor air. This unit will measure VOCs in the air. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulates VOC exposure in the workplace, but it is not typically monitored in homes. Volatile organic compounds that are classified as hazardous materials are regulated by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration while being transported. But if you want to track VOCs in your home, you need a sensor of your own.

Your air quality data is shared on the web, to create a community-led air quality sensing network.

Features

Wireless. That means there is just one egg with the sensors, which reports directly via WiFi.
Also has an offline datalogging mode if you are out of range of a network (required micro-SD card, not included).
LCD panel on the egg, so you can see readings in real time. Reports temperature (in degrees), humidity (%), particulate pollution (micrograms per cubic meter).
USB powered. Any (at least 500mA) Micro-usb phone charger works (we provide one in the box).
High accuracy co2 sensor.
Much more accurate temperature and humidity sensors.
Data is stored at OpenSensors.io, who are committed to keeping data open and free.
Hidden ‘touch zone’ capacitative switch turns on the LCD backlight.
Samples every 5 seconds (instead of every 2 minutes).

One other change, this unit is not upgradable with additional sensors. You CAN add a GPS unit and the data logging package. If you order these at the same time, we will install them for no charge.

What about Celsius and Fahrenheit?

Your egg will report temperature in Celsius. Please let us know if you want something different when you order. It is also easy for you to customize this at any time.

Can you pre-configure my egg for my Wi-Fi network?

Here’s a video on how to tell your egg about your W-Fi network details, or we can do it for you.

After ordering, email us your order number, your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password. We will program these into your egg for you – all you have to do is plug it in!

If you don’t want to do that, you can add them yourself when it arrives (You need a laptop/PC/Mac/Linux to do this).
